Does Elk Grove Want Its Own FM Station?

Elk Grove has 10% of  the population of Sacramento County. You'd never know it to listen to or watch local broadcast stations. If no one is murdered or there's no high-speed chase down Highway 99, you won't get much Elk Grove news, and no community affairs.

Is this good enough?

It doesn't have to be this way.  A new ruling by the FCC is opening up the FM dial to new Low Power FM (LPFM) Radio licenses.  See the News Release.

What does this mean for Elk Grove?  It means that our city could have its own radio station. It would have to be community run, non-profit, educational, and represent the needs of the community.

It could be the exact kind of thing to help Elk Grove become the city we want.

The station could start broadcasting as early as 2014.

This can't happen without local involvement. Community Groups, City Leaders, and the general public will have to get involved. They will have to WANT it.

So, step one is to be heard and plug in.

Let's get Elk Grove "On the Air"
